Investing has always been advised by successful people for those who are looking for more ways to make money. Investing is often dubbed as “making money work for you”. Picking the right investments can double or triple your money in few years. In this article, I will share my pretty brief investing journey with GInvest by GCash. I will also share my actual results. This is my first time investing in stocks so I hope this can help out my fellow newbies out there. Although I’ve been investing in cryptocurrency in the past years.
I’ve always wanted to try investing in stocks but I never had the time to register on brokerage platforms, It’s pretty time-consuming for me. But when I learned about Ginvest where you can start investing in stocks just by using your GCash account and mobile phone, I finally had the opportunity.
Disclaimer: Before you decide to invest in GInvest or any investing platforms, you should understand that there is no guaranteed result in investing. You may make money and you may also lose your money. Only invest the money you are okay to lose and always do your own research about any investment you’re going to do. Also, investing is not a get rich quick scheme.
What is GInvest
GInvest is a new feature inside the GCash app where you can technically buy stocks from companies not just here in the Philippines but also international companies.
Here are the current list of companies in the Philippines that you can invest in via GInvest:
ATRAM Philippine Equity Smart Index Fund
- Globe Telecom
- Ayala Corp
- SM Investments
- Universal Robina Corp
Here are also the current list of international companies available to invest in:
ATRAM Global Technology Feeder Fund
- Alphabet (parent company of Google)
ATRAM Global Consumer Trends Feeder Fund
Who wouldn’t want to invest in these companies right? One of the best part of investing in GInvest is if you choose to put money in the ATRAM Philippine Equity Smart Index Fund, your money will be invested in all of the companies under that fund. The same goes for the other funds.
There are 2 more funds inside GInvest, the ATRAM Peso Money Market Fund and ATRAM Total Return Peso Bond Fund. I didn’t invest in these funds since the history of returns in the past year are very low compared to the 3 funds I listed above. The gains are comparable to bank interest rates. Although the risk is lower, the reward on these funds are very low as well.
What is ATRAM
ATRAM Trust Corporation (ATRAM Trust) manages some of the best performing funds in the Philippines. ATRAM Trust is the first stand-alone trust corporation in the Philippines. It received its license to operate in October 2016 from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). ATRAM Trust provides and manages the funds available in GCash Invest Money.https://help.gcash.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038331674-Who-is-ATRAM-Trust-Corp-
ATRAM Trust is GCash’s partner corporation that handles the funds coming from GCash investors. ATRAM basically has professional fund managers that invests your money in different stocks and bonds.
So with this kind of investing via GInvest, you do not directly buy shares from the companies. You give your money to a trust company like ATRAM and let them manage and invest your money in company stocks.
Is GInvest Legit?
For those who are doubting whether it is safe to invest your money to GInvest. Gcash is owned by Globe Telecom which is one of the biggest telecommunication companies in the Philippines, so you should not worry. Also, GInvest is regulated by the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
I will also show a screenshot of my GInvest funds below for those who are looking for proofs.
How Much did my Investment in GInvest Earn in 1 Month
Now that I’ve explained the basics about GInvest, I will now show you how good or bad my investments did. You should not expect high amounts of earnings though since I didn’t invest large amounts of money. And we all know you need to invest hundreds of thousands or even millions before you can see good gains when investing in stocks. Some of my investment’s value also went down, this just proves that there are definitely low and high times in investing.
My first investment via Ginvest was on April 17, 2021. I bought 10,000 PHP worth of ATRAM Global Consumer Trends Feeder Fund and 10,000 PHP worth in the ATRAM Global Technology Feeder Fund.
On April 30, 20221, I decided to buy in the ATRAM Philippine Equity Smart Index Fund. I also bought 10,000 PHP worth of this fund.
Here’s a screenshot of the text confirmation from GInvest about my buy orders:
So technically I have 20,000 PHP investments in international companies Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet, Samsung, Amazon, Alibaba, Shopee, Sony. And I also have 10,000 PHP investments in local companies Globe, Ayala, SM Investments, Universal Robina Corp.
On May 29, 2021, after a month of putting my money in Ginvest, here are the values of my investments:
You can see that only the ATRAM Philippine Equity Smart Index Fund made money. As for the ATRAM Global Technology Feeder Fund and ATRAM Global Consumer Trends Feeder Fund, their values went down. This is why in investing, you never put all your eggs in one basket, you need to diversify.
This does not mean though that the value of the 2 funds won’t go up in the future. Basing on the history of these ATRAM funds, prices will go down in some times but the trajectory moving forward is always upwards.
This for example is the performance chart of the ATRAM Global Technology Feeder Fund since 2018:
Here’s an update on June 07, 2021 and this for sure is better in the eyes. At least we actually made some earnings from our entire investments in GInvest.
This is for long-term investment, so I will wait for years and the values should and I really look forward to them going up. I will also make an update post about my investments in GInvest after few months or a year. If you’re interested to know about the updates on my investments by then, like my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/PesoAdviceOfficial.
I also have a Youtube Channel. I will be uploading video versions of these articles in the future so if you want to be updated, be sure to subscribe https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxJBxoKv02D8I0MtaCOD9nA
